The deputy director general of Iraq’s Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate (PCLD) has revealed that nine companies to compete in a second oil bidding round.
Speaking to Dow Jones, the news gathering agency, Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi confirmed the pre-qualification of the nine companies, the majority of which are state-owned concerns from emerging markets.
The nine winning bidders had been selected from a total of 38 companies and consortia according the PCLD’s website.
The winning bidders are the Russian state-owned companies Rosneft and OAO Tatneft, JSC KazMunaiGas Exploration and Production, a unit of the Kazakh national oil company (NOC), Petrovietnam Exploration and Production Corp from Vietnam, Sonangol the Angolan NOC, Pakistan Petroleum Ltd, Oil India Ltd, Cairn Energy PLC from the UK and Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp.
The second-bidding round for development service contracts on 11 oil and gas fields in Iraq had been announced in December of last year.
The fields could increase Iraq’s oil output by up to 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd) over the next five years, about equal to what is currently pumped by the country.
