Rex Tillerson, chairman and CEO of US major ExxonMobil, was full of praise for Qatar’s natural gas industry as he addressed an audience at the Seventh Doha Conference on Natural Gas, held in the country’s capital.
The US-based heavyweight highlighted the need for an international market for natural gas in hastening a global economic recovery and reducing the impact on the environment, whilst suggesting in doing so we must learn from “Qatar’s vision and its policies”.
“Natural gas is playing and will play an increasingly important role in building this brighter future, and as this conference suggests a “cleaner fuel for tomorrow,” Tillerson said.
“To meet energy demands and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, we must develop and deliver greater supplies of natural gas to markets worldwide.”
“An International market for natural gas is more important than ever – it is key to hastening the recovery of our global economy and facilitating the search for solutions to our environmental challenges” he added.
“Keeping these facts in mind, it is evident why Qatar is an example to the world. We must learn from Qatar’s vision and its policies.”
Tillerson was also keen to emphasise the successful partnership between ExxonMobil, an IOC, and Qatar Petroleum, an NOC.
“Our joint success is testament to what is possible when national and international energy companies work together. And it is a reminder that, with teamwork and technology, we can meet the world’s growing need for energy.”
“We our proud of our 15 years of work with the State of Qatar and Qatar Petroleum and of our achievements in the country. We look forward to the future with optimism, working with the leadership in Qatar and the respective authorities in the years to come in realising that national vision,” he said.
