Canadian rescue teams are searching the Atlantic Ocean off Newfoundland for 16 missing men, after a helicopter transporting oil platform workers crashed into the sea. It is the second of such incidents in recent weeks, following the North Sea helicopter crash off BP’s Etap platform.

Of the 18 onboard the Cougar Helicopters Skikorsky S-92 aircraft, one man was pulled from the water in a critical condition by the rescue team, while another body of an unidentified man was recovered.

The crew and passengers were wearing survival suits designed to ward of hyperthermia for about 24 hours, and were equipped with radio locater beacons, flares and lights to assist a rescue effort.  Reports have stated that no signals have been received from the remaining missing men.
