DEWA announces $15.52bn spending plans

Dubai utilities company says money is being spent on new projects

DEWA has announced that US15.52 billion is currently being spent on new projects in Dubai. The authority also revealed that a further $4.22 billion has been allocated to projects that have come into service in the past two years.

The spending is part of plans to expand water and electricity networks in order to support the construction plans of Dubai. Last year in the city, 28 132kv substations and one 400kv substation were commissioned, with 27 more planned this year.

DEWA currently has 6676MW of electricity, while the peak load for Dubai as of 2008 was 5287MW, leaving a surplus margin of 1389MW. By the end of the year the authority is predicting the capacity will reach 7287MW.

It is also hoped that the production capacity of water in Dubai reaches 333MIGD by the end of the year. The figure is currently 278MIGD. A large number of projects for water transmission and distribution networks and pumping stations are being planned throughout the city.
