Dubai World Central (DWC) has organised a three day training course on power quality, aimed at regional power companies in the Middle East.

The firm is aiming to provide companies with strategic guidance and best practice information during the course. DWC chief operating officer Rashed Buqa’raa said: “Power quality is a growing concern to distribution companies, telecommunication companies, process industries, steel mills, refineries and sensitive businesses, leading to interruptions, equipment break downs, excessive loading and energy losses.”

Topics covered on the course will include measuring and monitoring power quality, worldwide earthing and grounding practices and the economic issues surrounding power quality.

Buqa’raa concluded: “The penetration of large non-linear loads such as 400 Hz ground power units, computer equipment, security systems, electric ground support equipment and electric vehicle battery chargers poses potential power quality, power delivery and energy consumption issues, especially in big airports like the one being developed by Dubai World Central.”

The event will take place from 7-9 April 2009.
