Qatargas has announced that the construction of 14 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers has been completed with the final vessel to be delivered very shortly.
The eight Q-Flex and six Q-Max vessels were constructed in built in three different ship yards in South Korea and will be used to deliver LNG produced from the Qatargas 2 facility for the Qatar-based company.
“We have already put many of these vessels into operations delivering cargos around the world, and they are performing well. The decision to bank on new technologies to significantly expand the capacity of these ships appear to have been well justified,” said Qatargas shipping manager Abdullah Al-Sulaiti.
The Q-Flex and Q-Max ships boast higher capacities and levels of efficiency, according to the firm. Qatargas reports that the Q-Max has 80% more capacity than a conventional LNG carrier with around 40% lower energy requirements due to the size and efficiency of the engines.
Qatargas 2 shareholders are Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Qatargas II Limited and Total E&P Qatargas II Holdings Ltd.
