MESC develops testing facilities for safer cables

Cable manufacturer discusses the challenges and opportunities facing the industry today.

As the demand for high-end quality cables increases, Middle East Specialised Cables (MESC) addresses both challenges and opportunities such growth brings to those operating in the industry in the Middle East, and worldwide.

By exploring all possible methods, such as new product technologies, and partnerships with other cable manufacturers MESC aims to provide customers with cost effective, quality products in a time span that no other cable manufacturer can offer.

“The provisions boom that is heating up the energy sector is proving that the Middle East is taking the lion’s share of the global energy investment, not only because it is the heart of the world hydrocarbon production, but also because of the vast number of development projects taking place simultaneously across the region which is just one of the challenges facing the cable industry worldwide,” said Hashem Al Huneidi- CEO of MESC.

The other challenges facing the cabling sector today is the availability of raw materials and the increasing price in attaining them, subsequently affecting the quality of the end product, and potentially causing a serious health and safety hazard.

In light of these issues, MESC has developed special testing facilities for flame retardant and smoke propagation/ light transmission tests, fire resistance, and acid gas emission within its premises.

“We have invested in new technologies for a combination of various products and services, thereby understanding the need for more testing facilities for cables different than those used in traditional cable technology. It is more than just a product problem; it a serious health and safety issue,” said Al Huneidi.
