Software simplifies data analysis process

Sciencesoft introduces its new Petroleum Productivity Suite.

In the ever-more demanding oil, gas and petrochemical industries technological advancements are vast in quantity, and many companies today are investing in millions of dollars in an attempt to simplify the data analysis process.

Sciencesoft, a specialist in technical graphing, data analysis and visualisation software for petroleum engineers in the worldwide oil and gas industry introduces its ‘Petroleum Productivity Suite’.

The primary aims of the products are to simplify the workflow for engineers and enable then to easily interpret complex technical information acquired through reservoir simulation – allowing them access to important results quickly and efficiently.

The Sciencesoft Petroleum Productivity Suite consists of four different components or programs: the S3GRAF, S3GRAF-3D, S3GRAF-HPG and S3connect.

“S3GRAF and S3GRAF-3D are easy-to-use, but powerful post-processing and visualisation tools for the major reservoir simulators used in the Petroleum Industry worldwide,” said Dr. Lindsay Wood, director of research and development, Sciencesoft.

“S3GRAF-HPG is a new and unique product specifically designed for use in the Middle East market that allows multi-million cell models from reservoir simulators to be loaded up to 100 times faster than traditional methods.

“S3connect couples reservoir models to GAP surface networks, giving a better understanding of problems in field planning, development, production and management,” he added.

Traditionally, engineers had been tied to software that only worked with the data of one specific vendor, and the investments made in training got lost when alternative data formats were used. However, with recent technological advancements engineers are able to analyse reservoir simulators simply – thus, helping to support their workflow, rather than produce images only.

Sciencesoft’s approach is to aim to provide a single solution for several data formats, taken from multiple technical software suppliers. So, once the relative training is completed, engineers are able to visit different offices and be immediately productive in the data analysis process.

“Sciencesoft offers on-site training in the use of all of the company’s products, which is based on a two-day course,” said Wood.

“One of the key elements of our training is that we encourage engineers to use their own data for the exercises, allowing them to go through their own individual workflows using S3GRAF rather than a set of standard examples. We aim to get engineers working on their own problems rather than simply learning which buttons to press,” he continued.

As the use of reservoir simulation as a tool for reservoir evaluation continues to grow worldwide, which in turn demands better interpretation, visualisation and analysis techniques, according to Wood, “it is essential that these challenges be met if the lifetimes of both existing and new reservoirs are to be optimised.”
