France’s Veolia Water has won contracts totalling € 22.4 million (US $33 million) for works on the Palm Jumeirah island and the Burj Dubai Tower projects in Dubai, through its subsidiary Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies.
Palm Water has ordered a turnkey delivery of a wastewater recycling plant for the Palm Jumeirah island. The facility will be built alongside the existing wastewater treatment plant and will have a capacity of 17,000 m3 per day. It will use membrane filtration technology and the recovered water will be used for irrigation and air-conditioning.
The second contract, from Emaar Properties, is to supply a treatment plant for the 300,000 m3 artificial lake by the Burj Dubai Tower. The facility will have a capacity of 62,400 m3 per day and will work on a three-day cycle. The lake will be fed by treated storm water and will be topped up with freshwater to offset evaporation.
Veolia Water chief executive, Antoine Frerot, said: “The spectacular development of Dubai is generating substantial infrastructure requirements, particularly in the field of water. Located in a region with very limited water resources, Dubai needs to acquire sophisticated technological solutions for water treatment and recycling.”
