Iran’s gas exports rise more than 50% in past five months

Iran’s gas exports in the past five months has risen by more than 50% compared to the same period last year, Reuters has reported quoting the Iranian Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.

In the five months since late March, the start of the Iranian year, exports exceeded 5bn cubic metres (bcm), compared with 3.2 bcm last year, the dispatching manager for the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Mehdi Jamshidi Dana, according to Shana.

Since late March, Iran exported 34.8 mcm of gas per day, compared with 21.3 mcm per day during the equivalent period last year, he said.

Flaring gas at Iran’s South Pars field in the Gulf has also been curbed, Gholamreza Manouchehri, the vice president for engineering at the state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Shana also reported.

The rate of gas flaring at South Pars dropped from 15mcm per week to 3mcm, he said, without giving a precise time period for the reduction.
