Iran has begun exporting natural gas to Iraq, the former’s official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted a senior Iranian oil official as saying.
Exports had started at approximately 7mn cubic metres per day (mcm/d) and would eventually reach up to 35mcm/d, said Amir Hossein Zamaninia, the deputy oil minister for trade and international affairs, according to IRNA.
Iran has signed two contracts to export gas, to the Iraqi capital Baghdad and the southern Iraqi city of Basra, IRNA reported.
Earlier this year in Baghdad, the oil ministers of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in different oil and gas fields.
