The winner of this year’s ‘Health Safety and the Environment Initiative of the Year’ was the Kuwait Oil Company’s Health and Environment team.
The jury recognised that the company had a strong focus on critically assessing its policies in their area and a real commitment to implementing them.
One judge said: “KOC is one of the oil and gas majors in the Middle East that has made HSE one of its priorities and implements plans and programmes to increase safety levels.”
Collecting the award Bader Al Telaihi, operations manager, said: “Receiving this accolade makes me feel really proud on behalf of the company. Innovation has played a key role in the success we have experienced and we also have to be optimistic about the future of the industry, especially as we have seen the price of oil going down.
“Cutting costs has become more important and that is where innovation comes in once again.
“Sustainability is another important factor and in Kuwait we are looking to it as a major part of our future – over the next 25 years or so,
“Kuwait has the second largest reserves of oil in the world and we are partnered with firms such as BP and Shell. Over the next decade we will be exploring all the new technologies available in order to maximise our productivity.”
