Amec Foster Wheeler awarded FEED contract by KOC

British multinational engineering, construction and design firm will upgrade KOC’s Oil Gathering Centre GC-24

Amec Foster Wheeler on Thursday announced that it has been awarded a front end engineering design (FEED) contract by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to upgrade its Oil Gathering Centre GC-24.

The project continues the company’s work with Kuwait’s state-run oil firm on major projects since 2004, which has recently included three new gathering centres and strategic pipeline projects in the north of the country.

KOC is planning to increase oil production by up to 1mn barrels of oil per day (bopd) by 2020 and to maintain this for 10 years.

Critical to the expansion, this project will enhance the existing GC-24 facility, increasing capacity by 50,000 bopd from the current level of 165,000 bopd, as well as optimising existing facilities to cater for the expected high level of water in the mix of crude oil and gas.

Commenting on the award, Roberto Penno, Group President of Amec Foster Wheeler’s Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Southern Europe business, said: “Kuwait Oil Company is one of our key customers and this further strengthening of our working partnership follows our success in delivering projects for them and management of the original GC-24 Project which was completed six months ahead of schedule.”
