The United Arab Emirates will participate in an upcoming meeting in Doha between OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers, the country’s Energy Minister announced last week.
“We received an invitation to participate in the Doha meeting between OPEC and non-OPEC and we confirmed our participation,” H E Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei posted on his Twitter account.
The meeting in Qatar on April 17 will bring together oil producers to discuss a global pact to freeze production to support prices.
Qatar has invited all OPEC members and major producers from outside the exporting group to attend talks next month, its Energy Ministry previously announced.
‘The need has become an urgent matter to bring back balance to the market and recovery to the global economy’, the ministry said in the invitation letter.
Qatar holds the OPEC presidency in 2016 and has been organising the effort.
OPEC members, led by Saudi Arabia, struck a deal with the biggest non-OPEC oil producing country Russia to freeze output at January levels to support the global oil market.
Iran has maintained that it will increase exports, following the lifting of Western sanctions in January and will not freeze output. But Gulf OPEC members support the pact even if Iran declined to take part, OPEC sources said.
