The Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) has commenced a solar photovoltaic (PV) panel pilot project which aims to reduce carbon emissions and achieve over 50% savings in energy consumption at individual service stations.
The project will commence at ENOC’s Dubai Media City petrol station on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The project was initiated by ENOC Retail, the retail business of Dubai-based ENOC, in an effort to use solar energy to power the daytime electrical loads as part of ENOC’s wider innovation and sustainability strategy.
PV panels will be installed on the station’s roof and are expected to generate about 100 to120KW of power during the daytime, which will be around 50 to 60% of the station’s total consumption.
“Our new pilot project on the use of PV panels to power our service stations is another huge step for us in promoting energy efficiency and resource management through the enhancement of eco-friendly products and the use of cleaner and greener energy saving equipment,” Burhan Al Hashemi, managing director, ENOC Retail, said.
The pilot project is already 25% complete and is expected to be commissioned on site by July 2016.
The new PV project will be monitored and evaluated for electricity efficiency and reduction over a period of six months to measure its feasibility and impact on the broader business.
