SNC-Lavalin bags Qatargas water treatment deal

SNC-Lavalin is providing EPC services for the recycling facility at the Ras Laffan Refinery 2

Qatargas has awarded a contract to SNC-Lavalin for a water recycling facility at its Laffan Refinery 2 plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

SNC-Lavalin is providing engineering, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning services for the recycling facility to handle treated industrial water from the Laffan Refineries 1 and 2. The contract is expected to be completed in Q1 2017.

The recycling system is designed to reuse treated industrial water produced by the industrial plants. The system mainly consists of ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis with ancillary facilities. Purified water will be recycled back to the refineries for use in the cooling and boiler feed water systems.

“We are delighted to play a key role in delivering this sustainable project, which contributes to Qatargas meeting its environmental commitments, and bringing the system safely into operation,” Christian Brown, president, Oil & Gas – SNC Lavalin, said.

“We have been working with Qatargas for 12 years and look forward to continuing our successful relationship,” Brown added.

When completed, the Laffan Refinery 2 will process an additional 146 thousand barrels per day (bpd) of condensates recovered from Qatar’s North Field, doubling the capacity of Laffan Refinery 1.

SNC-Lavalin has been operating in Qatar since 1997, and has worked on multiple projects for Qatargas and Qatar Petroleum, including the Pearl GTL complex.
