Liebherr Offshore Crane Division has completed yet another project with long-term client Petrogas, a privately-owned exploration and production firm headquartered in Oman.

A state-of-the-art ram luffing crane of the type RL-1500 has just been commissioned for the Petrogas A18 Platform for the Dutch Sector of The North Sea.

In 2014, Petrogas, owned by MB Holding, purchased all the outstanding shares of Chevron Exploration and Production Netherlands B.V. (CEPN), including its subsidiary Chevron Transportation B.V. (CT).

The Dutch assets A/B and P/Q are now held under Petrogas Exploration and Production Netherlands. The purchase includes operating working interests in 11 blocks in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.

This includes seven blocks, with working interests ranging from 23.5% to 34.1%, which make up the A/B Gas Project.

Also included are working interests ranging from 46.7% to 80% in three blocks that contain other producing fields and a 100% working interest in the P2 exploration block.

PEPN currently employs 189 personnel including 127 employees and 62 regular contractors in offshore and onshore positions in the Netherlands.

“The weight-optimised and compact design make the ram luffing crane (RL) an ideal piece of equipment for North Sea Platforms”, says Iwan Scholte, Sales Manager at Liebherr’s Offshore Crane Division. The crane will be mainly used to lift supplies and auxiliary equipment from supply vessels, but is sized also for potential future operational needs.

“The crane was delivered on time and within a short period assembled, installed, hooked up and tested on site at the Platform Fabricators facility in The Netherlands. The whole assembly process was very well planned. As a result, the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) was a pure formality,” says Paul Quinn the Construction Manager for Petrogas.

This latest successful delivery was a result of a good working relationship and cooperation between both companies over a long period of time. Liebherr Maritime Benelux now provides aftersales support for all 10 Liebherr offshore cranes for Petrogas in The Netherlands.
