Jebel Ali Port has been named best seaport in the Middle East for the 21st consecutive year.
DP World’s flagship port scooped the Best Seaport – Middle East Award at the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards (AFLAS) 2015 in Hong Kong.
The award was received on behalf of DP World by Rashid Abdulla, senior vice president and managing director of the terminal operator’s Asia Pacific region.
Commenting on the award, DP World Chairman, HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said: “We are delighted by this recognition in Asia, and proud that our flagship Jebel Ali Port continues to lead by example.
Being crowned as the Best Seaport – Middle East for 21 years in a row is an achievement for Dubai and the UAE as a whole, demonstrating that visionary leadership, commitment, and performance excellence continue to drive our national development.
“Our focus on strengthening Jebel Ali’s role as the gateway to the Middle East, Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent is paying dividends. Our proven, port-centric, integrated logistics solutions have been complemented with the acquisition of the Economic Zones World, which includes Jebel Ali Free Zone. We are committed to [contributing] even more to the UAE’s economy and Dubai’s status as the premier regional trading hub,” he added.
DP World recently announced the start of construction work on Container Terminal 4 at Jebel Ali, which will deliver new capacity of 3.1-million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in Phase 1 by 2018.
The construction of Terminal 4 will see Jebel Ali Port’s total capacity rise to 22.1m TEU.
