The award of a tender contract to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility in Fujairah, UAE is expected to be announced by the end of 2015, according to BAM International.

Speaking to Construction Week, Patrick McKinney, BAM’s area manager for the Middle East, revealed that the Netherlands-headquartered contractor has submitted a bid for the project in collaboration with South Korea’s Samsung C&T.

“We have bid for the EmiratesLNG Fujairah project in a joint venture with Samsung C&T, and are expecting the award by the end of the year,” McKinney explained.

EmiratesLNG, a joint venture between state-controlled International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC) and Mubadala Petroleum, won approval for the LNG facility in November 2013.

One year later, the UAE’s Energy Minister, Suhail bin Mohammed Al-Mazroui, told state news agency, WAM that the award for the contract would be announced in late 2014 or early 2015.

The Fujairah terminal will have the capacity to accommodate the largest LNG tankers, with most of the gas destined for the UAE’s power sector. Front-end engineering design (FEED) has been completed by France’s Technip.
