Kuwait boosts oil security after attack on mosque

State-run Kuwait Petroleum Corp (KPC) and its group of companies have stepped up security to the highest level, KUNA news agency reported, quoting Sheikh Talal al-Khaled al-Sabaha, spokesperson for the country’s oil sector.

The news came a day after a terror attack on Shia mosque in the country claimed the lives of 27 people.

The attack took place on Friday which became known as ‘Deadly Friday’ after at least 39 people were killed in a beach resort in Tunisia and one man was decapitated in a separate terror attack in France.

A spokesman for the state-run firm Khaled al-Asousi said that precautionary measures had long been in place around oil installations but in light of Friday’s bombing, “extra monitoring and searches” were being taken to increase security at these facilities, Reuters reported.

Kuwait and Saudi Arabia said in March they would boost security around oil facilities after an Arab-allied military operation started in Yemen.
