The 26th World Gas Conference opened its doors in Paris today attracting thousands of senior international oil and gas executives from more than 600 organisations from across the globe.

The chief executive officers of Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, BG Group, Total and Qatargas are among the keynote speakers at the event aimed to address the current challenges facing the global gas industry.

High on the agenda will be the impact of falling oil prices and associated business coping strategies, technological innovations for cost reductions, and new markets for LNG supplies as well as security of supply, prospects for LNG pipelines and the future of shale gas.

Improving collaboration between oil and gas companies and governments and organisations to meet global post-2020 climate and energy targets will also be key part of discussions.

Around 500 speakers are set to participate in more 70 sessions due to take place between 2nd and 4th of June.

International Gas Union President Jerome Ferrier said: “It is vital that we work together to address some of the major challenges facing the world amid an unprecedented period of change for our industry.

“Gas is the fuel of the future. It is the cleanest fossil fuel and offers clear advantages over other energy choices in a carbon constrained world.”
