Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp and Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) have been awarded a contract to build a $2.5bn gas-fired power plant in Qatar, Reuters reports.
Mitsubishi and Tepco will invest and own 30% of a joint venture in charge of building and operating the fire-gas plant along with a water desalination plant, with the biggest shareholder Qatar Electricity & Water Co set to own 60%.
Qatar’s national oil company Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Foundation will each have a 5% stake in the venture.Â
The facilities are scheduled to start operations in 2017 and will be located 20 km south of Doha, the Japanese companies said.
