BP is “on track” with the Khazzan tight gas field and remains confident it will deliver first gas in 2017, a senior official told Times of Oman.
The company will complete 16 wells in the Khazzan tight gas field and will have at least nine rigs in operation by the end of this year, said Dave Campbell, chief operating officer of BP Oman.
Campbell added that plans to make cuts to its capital expenditure following the oil price slump will not affect its work in the Khazzan field in Oman.Â
The Khazzan project is on track, on budget and on schedule, he said, noting that BP Oman is all set to increase drilling activity in the technically challenging natural gas field.
Five rigs are operational at the moment and several rigs will be added soon, Campbell said, adding that there will be at least nine rigs in operation by the end of this year.

“We have made good progress to date and this year, we will start 20 and will complete 16 wells,” Campbell said, adding that 14 wells are planned to be fractured and stimulated in 2015.Â
As part of the project, around 300 wells will be drilled over 15 years reaching production of around one billion cubic feet of gas per day, enough to increase Oman’s daily gas supply by one third.
