Details of two new downstream oil projects will be revealed at the 17th edition of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, GulfNew has reported.

Organisers of this year’s Adipec have indicated that Abu Dhabi will complete two key projects- the $10bn Ruwais refinery expansion of the Adnoc’s unit Takreer and the $2mn Borouge project of Abu Dhabi polymers company. Conference organisers have said that Ruwais is undergoing a major transformation to become the largest and most modern industrial complex in the world.

The $10bn Ruwais expansion project is scheduled for completion in H4 of this year and will take Takreer’s overall refining capacity to nearly 1bn barrels of products per day. The Ruwais refining complex is located 240km west of Abu Dhabi. As part of the Borouge project expansion, a petrochemical complex is said to be completed and be fully operatinal by the end of this year.

Other topics to be covered in the conference include US shale gas extraction and the demand for fuels and petrochemicals in the Middle East, new regional downstream projects and the possibility of oversupply of products besides new trends and technologies.

A number of top officials including Jasem Ali Al Sayegh, CEO of Takreer and Abdul Aziz AlHajri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company will speak as part of the session on UAE Downstream industry. The 17th edition of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between the 10th and 13th of November.

The conference, established as one of the largest oil and gas gatherings outside North America, will be themed ‘Challenges and Opportunities for the Next 30 Years’. The event is supported by the Ministry of Energy, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and the Abu Dhabi Chamber.
