Emerson Process Management has helped Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)meet its objective of integrated operations for the Sabriyah oil field in North Kuwait.
KOC aims to enhance oil production; therefore implementing the enterprise-wide Kuwait Integrated Digital Field strategy has proved to be helpful.
The benefits of the strategy can already be noticed in the Sabriyah field, where integrated process automation and communication solutions enable workers access real-time data from throughout the field and then collaborate with others to make timely, effective production decisions.
“Emerson’s technologies have been one of the key components of this project,” said Ahmed Khalid Al Jasmi, team leader – surface for research and technology at KOC. “Their advanced products and systems and their extensive experience in the oil and gas industry make Emerson one of the ideal automation partner,” he said.
The project which was executed in collaboration with international oil services company Halliburton, involved instrumenting 49 wells and upgrading the oil field’s power and IT infrastructure.
The Emerson automation solution includes Rosemount® pressure and temperature instruments and Roxar multiphase flow meters that capture real-time wellhead data to give a full picture of what’s happening in the Sabriyah field. ROC remote terminal units transmit the data to a nearby gathering center, where Emerson’s OpenEnterprise™ supervisory control and data acquisition system receives, controls, and analyzes the data and sends the information to KOC’s Ahmadi Collaboration Center.
In Ahmadi, the wide range of real time information from the wells is used for comprehensible workflows developed by KOC to help speed KOC’s decision-making. Users can view real-time alerts, consolidate advisories, and assign tasks to relevant departments. This integrated operations approach enables them to effectively monitor and evaluate well performance, analyze reservoirs, avoid losses, and allocate production.
“Emerson and KOC share a vision of the smart digital oilfield,” said Arif Mustafa, Emerson’s country manager for Kuwait. “With integrated operations we can bring the problems to the experts, rather than the other way around. Oil and gas producers gain the ability to collaborate and share information in real time, address issues before they become major problems, and maximize their fields’ productivity,” he said.
