Mott MacDonald has been appointed project management consultant by the Abu Dhabi Oil Company Limited (ADOC) for the development of the Hail offshore oilfield in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Located approximately 10km south of Mubarraz Island, the expansion will increase current production and secure safe production for 30 years.
The Hail offshore oilfield is located adjacent to ADOC’s existing operating field and includes undeveloped reservoirs, with the maximum oil production from these reservoirs anticipated to be similar to the current production rate of the existing oil fields.
The project comprises early production and full field development stages. Mott MacDonald will manage and administer Phase 1, which comprises front end engineering design (FEED), approvals, tendering the engineering, procurement and construction contract execution. Production manifolds will be installed on a new artificial island including wellheads, production/test manifolds and utilities.
Nasser Sharkawi, Mott MacDonald’s project manager, said: “The project is being developed in the Marawah marine biosphere reserve zone and protection of the environment is a high priority. There is deep gas field in rock formations below the Hail oil pools, which makes it technically challenging to produce. We’ll be driving safety through FEED into the engineering, procurement and construction phase of the project in order to protect marine and public health.”
