Vopak Horizon Fujairah Limited, a joint venture of Royal Vopak, Horizon Terminals Ltd – wholly owned by Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), the Government of Fujairah and Kuwait’s Independent Petroleum Group, today marked the inauguration of five oil tanker berth pipelines connecting its terminals to the Port of Fujairah.
“We are thankful to the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, in accomplishing this milestone project. It will contribute to fulfilling the goal of the Fujairah Government to further strengthen Fujairah as a global hub for refined products. Led by its strategic location and the ambitious infrastructure development, Fujairah has undisputedly evolved as a global hub for refined products. Having partnered with the Port of Fujairah for over 15 years, our new expansion highlights our commitment to the Emirate, and our focus on further enhancing operational efficiency to serve our customers more efficiently and swiftly,” said Saeed Khoory, chief executive officer of ENOC.
The pipelines directly link the Vopak Horizon Fujairah terminal with the jetties of the Port of Fujairah through five pipelines, two each dedicated to carrying clean petroleum products and fuel oil, and one for nitrogen.
“I am very pleased with the successful completion of this project which was a great joint effort of Vopak Horizon Fujairah, the Port of Fujairah, ENOC Engineering & Project Management and Al Banna Engineering. This pipeline connection will improve the service to our customers, reduce dependency on our own jetties and will enable Vopak Horizon Fujairah to capture future growth,” said Cees de Greve, general manager of Vopak Horizon Fujairah Ltd.
Each pipeline is about 3 km, with the two pipelines for petroleum products of 24” and the two pipelines for clean fuel at 30” in dimension. This marks the first time that a construction work is being undertaken in newly reclaimed land for expansion of the port.
The project was executed by Vopak Horizon Fujairah Ltd., ENOC’s Engineering & Project Management Division and Al Banna Engineering, the contractors, as per schedule within 11 months, at 700,000 manhours without lost-time injuries.
With the opening of the pipelines, Vopak Horizon Fujairah can now operate more vessels simultaneously, thus enhancing the standards of customer service. It also adds to the operational efficiency of Vopak Horizon Fujairah, which had earlier relied on its own jetties.
