BP has begun full commercial production in the Seth field in the East Nile Delta, according to a company statement.

60 kilometres offshore in the Ras Al-Barr concession, the $334 million project includes six production wells, and intially produced gas at the end of June, three months ahead of schedule.

The first two wells accessing the western part of the Seth reservoir are expected to reach 170 million standard cubic feet per day and develop about 240 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas. The gas is delivered to El Gamil gas terminal by means of the Denise pipeline.

Italy’s Eni has a 50% interest in Seth through its subsidiary International Egyptian Oil Company.

BP and its partners produce more than 35% of the country’s domestic gas and has produced almost 40% of Egypt’s entire oil production.

“Seth is yet another example of BP ‘s 50 years of commitment to Egypt and longstanding partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, and EGAS Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company,” said Hisham Mekkawi, regional president of BP Egypt, in a press release. “We look forward to continuing to play a key role in the development of Egypt’s energy sector in order to help meet Egypt’s growing energy demands for years to come.”
