Algerian state energy firm Sonatrach says it will resume its operations in Libya this month, after a protracted hiatus sparked by the civil war which overthrew Colonel Gaddafi.
The company has a suspended exploration program in Libya at block 65 in the Ghadmes basin, 340 km south of Tripoli.
According to an anonymous Algerian energy official speaking the Reuters, Sonatrach will resume with the drilling of a fifth well at the block, a 25% stake in which was awarded to Sonatrach in 2005.
Algerian officials had announced last month that Sonatrach would return to Libya within weeks, but at the time it was unclear how quickly the firm could resume exploration.
