ExxonMobil has reclaimed its position as the world’s number one company in the latest annual Forbes Fortune 500 rankings, beating retail giant Wal-Mart into second place.
Shares rose by 20% and profits surged by 35% to $41.1 billion.
Revenues jumped 28% to $452.9 billion. Earnings per share also rose 35.4% with a total return to investors increasing 18.7% over 2010.
The company’s acquisition of fracking firm XTO Energy $35 billion in 2010 has seen Exxon’s gas rise almost to the level of its oil production on a barrels of oil equivalent basis.
Chevron was ranked third and ConocoPhillips fourth in the rankings.
