Primetals Technologies, one of the largest plant builders for the metal industry – as well as being a leading digitalization and automation solution provider and metallurgical service partner – has chosen Rockwell Automation, Inc. (NYSE: ROK) to provide an innovative and reliable drive solution to be deployed in the dedusting plant of a major steel producer in Russia.
Dedusting plants are a key element in reducing the environmental impact of steel manufacturing. These large facilities filter the air during steel production, cleaning it, and restoring it to the condition it was in before entering the plant. The purified air can then be released without causing any environmental impact.
Rockwell Automation is well positioned to provide the necessary drives, and this large-scale operation also required exceptionally large motors. With the help of Intelligent Package Power (IPP), Rockwell partnered with global motor supplier, WEG. Together they provide a complete package of drives and motors.
Rockwell Automation has been steadily growing its presence in the Russian steel industry. Primetals Technologies opted to work with Rockwell, in preference to two well-established competitors, due to its reputation for expertise, technology, capability, and quality.
Once implemented, the 10 Allen-Bradley PowerFlex® 6000 Medium Voltage AC Drives from Rockwell Automation, combined with the corresponding 10 motors from WEG, will provide a total 16 MW performance. Primetals Technologies will also benefit from easy configuration, integration, and visualization, along with simplified and intuitive local control.
Following the success of this project, Rockwell Automation and Primetals Technologies are planning further collaboration.
