Tristar Group, the integrated logistics services provider, is pleased to announce its inaugural Safety at Sea conference which will take place in Dubai on Sunday November 10, 2019. This initiative has been introduced to draw industry and global attention to the importance of the physical and mental health of workers at sea.

Being on-board deep-sea bound vessels for long periods of time can play a role in exacerbating mental and physical strain. The Safety at Sea conference seeks to openly address these issues and demonstrate the need to support the health and wellbeing of all workers at sea.

Eugene Mayne, Group CEO of Tristar, said: “As a key player in the maritime industry, it is our duty to take a leading role to ensure that the physical and mental health of seafarers is treated with the utmost importance. We intend to create a robust platform to discuss and implement an ecosystem that will enable seafarers to seek counselling or professional advice. We welcome all to contribute to make this initiative a success, by taking part and asking questions, to enact positive changes for workers at sea.”

The conference, to be hosted at the One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai, will cover various topics currently affecting the maritime industry, including crew mental health and physical wellbeing, preventing incidents and accidents, maritime security, IMO2020, and more.

In attendance will be a number of global merchant marine professionals and experts. The conference will also be broadcast live to crewing centers around the world, to enable seafarers to engage with the event and provide their inputs and practical expertise on the topics being discussed.

Susie Hill, Global Health Promotion Manager at Shell, will share her expertise on mental health in the shipping industry. She will also speak on a panel with Reverend Canon Andy Bowerman, Regional Director of The Mission to Seafarers Organization. The panel will be moderated by Certified NLP Coach Alexis Dunstan.

Mr. Mayne added: “The challenges to personal wellbeing faced by workers at sea are unique to the industry, and as such require a targeted approach to ensure the welfare needs of all employees are properly taken care of. Along with my colleagues in the shipping team, we are very excited to discuss these needs with a variety of industry stakeholders and experts and look forward to creating solutions across the Tristar shipping business and the wider maritime industry.”
