An Iranian tanker laden with oil which was damaged by two blasts early on Friday sent a distress signal to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency confirmed in a statement.
The General Directorate of Border Guards said taht an email was received from Jeddah Radio with a letter from the captain of Sabiti, the damaged vessel. The letter reported that “the front of the vessel has been broken, resulting in an oil spill in the sea from the cargo and tanks of the vessel,” SPA reported.
The vessel continued operating, according to data from the Coordination Centre, traveling 67 nautical miles southwest of Jeddah Port, and closed its tracking system. It did not respond to communications from the Coordinating Centre.
