Algeria’s Sonatrach eyes partnership with Chevron

While it did not disclose details, Sonatrach said that the pair agreed on partnership areas, next steps, and the approach they would take

A group of Chevron officials has been meeting with Sonatrach since 23 September to discuss potential areas of collaboration between the two companies.

They held technical workshops in order to identify and explore different partnership opportunities. Chevron showed interest in the potential of the Algerian mining sector, according to a press release from Sonatrach.

While it did not disclose any details, Sonatrach confirmed that “concrete areas have been identified, and the next steps and approach have been agreed upon between the two companies.”

Sonatrach has aimed to encourage foreign investment and partnerships for some time, but the removal of president Abelaziz Bouteflika in February 2019 may have pushed away some investors, as Chevron is the first US major to visit the company since the February protests.
