Eaton Middle East launches two emergency lighting ranges

Eaton has launched two new ranges of emergency lighting that provide a complete solution for all large open plan areas. Individual luminaires can offer wide and narrow light distribution from the smallest, most aesthetic light fitting currently available for such applications.

Electronic focus programming on the BeamTech and BeamLite II ranges allow the 12 dedicated LEDs in each lamp head to be set up for a wide light distribution for anti-panic lighting or narrow focused lighting to illuminate escape routes or emergency equipment such as alarms and fire extinguishers.

For general anti panic lighting, the light from each lamp head covers a floor area of up to 30m with optimum spacing between luminaires of 36.8m (43.1m) for 1lux (0.5lux) illumination.  This is a greater area than covered by most other products, so fewer fittings are generally needed to cover a given space.

Rated at IP65 ingress protection and with an IK03 impact resistance, the new range is ideal for industrial applications such as factories or warehouses, but a complete redesign of the product means that it can now also be used in areas where aesthetics is important, such as in entertainment venues and shopping malls.

This redesign has been achieved by containing the smaller long-life Li-Ion or NiCd batteries and the high flux LED light heads within the same housing.  This is in contrast to other products used in such applications, which have a separate battery pack housing and the high flux LED lamps mounted on top.  While this is an effective solution, it results in a large and less aesthetic luminaire.

“The redesign of both the BeamTech and BeamLite II is crucial as it will improve evacuation safety for all open plan areas. With the Middle East growing as a host country to large-scale events such as EXPO 2020 and the Special Olympics, there is a increasing need for our buildings to be equipped with the safest tools possible to ensure everyone’s safety, ” Ashraf Yehia, general manager, Eaton Middle East.

The individual light heads on both BeamTech and BeamLite II can rotate through 360o and incline by up to 90o, so they have all the functionality of older solutions but from a smaller better looking alternative.

When it comes to installing the luminaire, Eaton has simplified the process and minimized the number of tools needed.  The fixing points are positioned outside the box, so there is no risk of compromising the luminaire’s IP65 rating and a built-in spirit level indicator ensures that it is mounted straight.

Wiring the product is simple with easy access to the unit via a clipped housing and cable entry is from either the side or rear of the fitting.  On BeamLite II, cable entries are also available from 4 sides (left, right, top and back) while Besa entry is available. On BeamTech range, there are 2 entry points for the wiring through built in cable glands, positioned in the interior of the power supply, always assuring the IP protection but keeping aesthetics undamaged. There are no knockouts and there is no need to install a separate gland.  The terminals are screwless using push fit technology.

For commissioning, you can adjust each light head directionally before locking it into place and programme narrow or wide angles of light distribution.  A test button allows you to check the light output and adjust it to ensure that each light head on the luminaire is set correctly.  You may, for example, choose to have one light head offering wide area illumination and a second with a focus to highlight an alarm or a fire extinguisher to meet the requirements of EN 1838:1.

The BeamTech range is currently available in fittings that have one or two LED light heads with different variants providing 250lm, 500lm, 1000lm of light. The BeamLite II range has two LED light heads with different products in the range producing 200lm, 400lm and 800lm of light.

Both ranges are available as self-contained emergency luminaires with optional features including telecommand and they are ENEC certified and EN60598-2-22 compliant.
