As part of Petroleum Development of Oman’s (PDO) efforts to support educational initiatives across the sultanate, the company has given 30 computers to the newly established computer lab at Al Nadwa Public Library, located in Bahla in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate.

The donation will allow more users to further enhance their knowledge through research in the library, which won the Sultan Qaboos Award for Voluntary Work in 2012. The library is already home to the first “PDO Corner” which was established in 2017, where information about the firm and the oil and gas industry can be found.  PDO is also sponsoring a summer programme at Bahla Sports Club entitled “Saifi Ghair” for the second time in a row. The programme aims to boost the knowledge and skills of school students.

This year the programme will target 120 young male and female students from classes 10 to 12 by providing vocational training in electronics, pipe fitting and air conditioning maintenance, as well as decorating and cookery skills. All students will also undergo a basic English course to enhance their linguistic skills.

PDO’s external affairs and communications manager, Mohammed Al Ghareebi said: “PDO is committed to supporting local communities with targeted social investments to address specific needs that add value to the communities’ day to day lives. We have no doubt that the donated computers and the youth summer training programme will have a positive impact on the PC users and trainees alike”.
