Every year, Oil & Gas Middle East ranks the 50 most powerful people in the region’s upstream sector. This year was a challenge for everyone, and a test for every executive in the oil and gas sector. While the actual ranking will be revealed in next month’s issue of the magazine, we can tell you that just like the energy landscape, things have changed. We urge everyone to pick up the magazine next month to find out who made the cut after one of the most difficult years in recent times.

Last year’s ranking saw Amin Nasser, CEO of Saudi Aramco, take over the top spot from regular Sultan Al Jaber, group CEO of ADNOC, after several years at the top of the list. Following the two NOC leaders was Bob Dudley, group CEO of British Petroleum, who has since stepped down, with Bernard Looney taking the helm with a series of radical changes to the international oil majors (who needs a downstream unit, anyway?).

Italian major ENI’s CEO Claudio Descalzi nabbed the fourth spot thanks to a series of agreements in the region, followed by French energy giant Total’s Patrick Pouyanné and the managing director of Petroleum Development Oman, Raoul Restucci.

This year, things are different, and the editorial team of Oil & Gas Middle East will consider the usual factors, including financial results, projects planned and underway, among others, but we will also consider the company’s ability to react and adapt to the pandemic, the measures that it has taken to protect its people and safeguard its supply chain, and how prepared it was to deal with such an industry-changing situation.

Who will take the top spot? Join our poll across social media channels and find out in the June issue.
