Following a series of wins, motor and drive manufacturer, WEG continues to be a notable presence in the Middle East and plans to further expand. Among its accomplishments, WEG has recently been awarded the contract to supply specialist electric motors and drives for the pumps at the Ras Markaz Oil Park Project in Oman as well as the supply of motors and drives for the Duqm refinery.
WEG Middle East has celebrated many successes in the last three years alone, following the appointment of Raphael Torrano as managing director. Recent wins also include the contract to supply hundreds of low and medium voltage motors for the Aramco Marjan project in Saudi Arabia. This project, like many other WEG Middle East endeavours, is complex and requires flexibility in design to address unique requirements.
Torrano boasts several years of experience at WEG, both locally in the Middle East and at global level. Having graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in business administration, Torrano has a thorough understanding of WEG products from a user perspective as well as experience in business development.
Torrano joined WEG in 2003 when he joined the Trainee Programme, and has since worked to develop sales channels including OEM’s, end users and distributors. Since moving to the Middle East in 2012 and becoming the sales and marketing manager, Torrano has used his expertise and comprehensive knowledge of different areas of the business to help WEG Middle East expand and thrive.
Torrano took the role of managing director in 2018 and has since played a key role in business growth. “The Middle East shows huge potential for business development in sectors such as oil and gas, infrastructure, water and power,” says Torrano. “WEG Middle East is a hub for WEG group in supporting the vast number of projects and customers in the region across different industries. Our next step is to further expand WEG Middle East into other countries in the region to further support local distributors, OEM’s and end-users.”
