It’s the last month of the year, and the momentum for project activity in the Middle East region hasn’t slowed down! Oil & Gas Middle East lists – in no particular order or ranking – the major contracts secured for diverse projects in the sector for the month of November 2022.

Editor’s note: This list is not a ranking.

1. Drilling Services

Scope of work: Integrated drilling fluids services

Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) awarded three framework agreements valued at $4 billion for integrated drilling fluids services (IDFS) to support the ongoing expansion of its lower-cost and lower-carbon-intensive production capacity.

The awards, the largest of their kind in the industry, were awarded to ADNOC Drilling, SLB and Halliburton. They cover ADNOC’s onshore and offshore fields and will run for five years with an option for a further two years.

2. Construction of operating base

Scope of work: EPC

Oman-based Galfar Engineering & Contracting was awarded an $83.1 million contract by Shell Development Oman for the construction of the field operating base in Block 10.

The scope of work includes design and build and operation of the field operating base, the Omani contractor said in a statement.

3. Offshore

Scope of work: Offshore drilling

Saipem was awarded new offshore drilling contracts, three in the Middle East and two in West Africa for a total amount of approximately $800 million, the company announced last month.

In the Middle East, two new contracts have been awarded for two high-specification jack-up drilling units chartered by third parties for drilling and workover activities on the specific projects.

4. LNG facility

Scope of work: FEED

UTM Floating LNG Ltd, JGC, Technip Energies, and KBR signed a FEED contract for the construction of Nigeria’s first FLNG facility.

The $5-billion facility in block OML 204 offshore Nigeria is expected to process 176 million standard cubic feet of natural gas and condensate per day.

According to Chief Timipre Sylva, Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, the FLNG project is a step forward in the right direction for the West African country to develop, exploit and monetise over 209 trillion cubic feet of proven gas resources and a potential upside of 600 Tcf of gas.

5. Block-10

Scope of work: EPS

Petrofac has been awarded three contracts from Shell to undertake new engineering and procurement services (EPS) scopes in Oman.

The first is a five-year EPS contract for Shell’s Block-10 Mabrouk Phase-2 Project, located in the Al Wusta Governate of Oman. The contract was awarded following a competitive tender and the scope includes well-pads for multiple wells, remote manifold stations and connecting pipeline, including water infrastructure for well development and a field operations base.

Two further contracts, to provide residual engineering and procurement services to complete Phase-1B of the Block-10 development, were secured under Petrofac’s global enterprise framework agreement with Shell.
