Italian EPC giant Saipem has been unsuccessful in its appeal against an Algerian court ruling for a verdict that had sentenced two former employees to imprisonment and imposed fines on Saipem related to alleged corruption for a 2008 tender related to the GNL3 Arzew LNG project in Algeria.
Saipem said in a press release that the Algerian Supreme Court this week rejected Saipem’s appeal presented by all the defendants against the decision made four months prior by the nation’s Appeal Court.
The Italian company on Friday said that the parent company Saipem SpA, Saipem Contracting Algerie and Snamprogetti SpA Algeria Branch reserve the right to challenge the Supreme Court’s decision.
In February 2022, Saipem had received a hefty fine and imprisonment of former employees under a first-degree decision by the Tribunal of Algiers.
According to the Tribunal of Algiers, Saipem said was been charged of allegedly “having obtained a contract, with a price higher than the expected value, concluded with a state-owned commercial and industrial company, benefiting of the influence of representatives of that company.”
