Saudi Arabia, China discuss energy cooperation and bilateral relations

The discussion centred around aligning with the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and China’s Bel and Road Initiative

Saudi Arabia and China engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening their bilateral relations in various energy sectors to align with the objectives of Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The talks took place between Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Energy, and Zhang Jianhua, Director of the National Energy Administration of China, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

During the meeting, both parties emphasised the significance of ensuring the security of energy supply while exploring potential collaboration in crude-to-chemicals projects, innovative applications of hydrocarbons, and the peaceful utilisation of nuclear energy. Key areas of focus also included nuclear fuel, national initiatives for uranium exploration and mining, electricity projects, renewable energy ventures, clean hydrogen production, and energy efficiency measures.

Saudi Arabia and China to also enhance cooperation in energy supply chain

Additionally, SPA reported that the discussion centred around the shared aspirations of Saudi Arabia and China to enhance cooperation in energy supply chains and jointly tackle climate challenges through the adoption of the circular carbon economy.

By embracing this approach, both nations aim to optimise carbon utilisation and minimise emissions, thus promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
