Oman LNG signed an agreement today to export 2.35 million tonnes of LNG annually to Japan’s top electricity generator, JERA, and trading houses Mitsui & Co and Itochu Corp, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.
The contracts will run over five and 10 years, beginning in 2025, ONA noted. The agreement was signed during a visit to Oman by Japanese Trade and Industry Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura.
During the meeting, aspects of cooperation between the two sides in various fields were reviewed.
Oman, the largest non-OPEC oil producer in the Middle East, is stepping up its LNG production. Recently, Asyad Shipping, part of Oman’s state-owned Asyad Group, signed a $500 million agreement with South Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for the construction of a pair of state-of-the-art LNG carriers.
