Eid Al Adha 2023: Expected six-day weekend dates revealed

UAE

As Eid Al Adha nears, UAE residents can expect a long weekend, right before schools close for a two-month summer break.

Residents can expect either a five- or six-day weekend, depending on the Moon sighting, which determines the beginning and ending of the Islamic Hijri calendar months.

The designated holiday period for this festival is from the 9th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar.

However, the specific dates in the Gregorian calendar can vary depending on the sighting of the Moon.

Eid Al Adha six-day weekend

Based on recent astronomical calculations, it is estimated that the holiday will likely occur from Tuesday, June 27, to Friday, June 30.

Including the usual Saturday-Sunday weekend, this results in a total break of six days.

Eid Al Adha is observed during the 12th and final month of the Hijri calendar, known as Dhul Hijjah.

At present, we are currently in the 11th month, Dhul Qaidah. Today, which is June 3, corresponds to Dhul Qaidah 14.

That being said, if the Moon is sighted on that night, Dhul Hijjah begins on June 19, leading to a six-day holiday weekend starting June 27.

However, if the Moon is not sighted on June 18, Dhul Hijjah will begin on June 20, resulting in a five-day weekend starting June 28.

The duration of the weekend, whether it is five or six days, will be confirmed on Dhul Qaidah 29, which falls on June 18.
