Iran pushes for Caspian boundary reconciliation

Pledge to end Caspian status rift through broad regional co-operation

An Iranian delegation in Azerbaijan is trying to resolve boundary disputes with the Caspian country in a bid to begin exlpoiting the sea’s rich offshore oil and gas fields.

According to a report by Azerbaijan’s APA nws service, the chairman of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani told a press conference in Baku that “Azerbaijan and Iran have good relations in all spheres. Our relations are long-term and have historical historical roots”.

Speaking about trilateral meetings of chairmen of Iranian, Azerbaijan and Turkish Parliaments, Larijani noted that, these meetings have the potential to resolve boundary problems.

He also noted that, he considered important to hold meetings among political heads of the Caspian countries.

Larijani also stressed that Caspian countries always have joint issues and this status issue must be solved for usage of it: the “Caspian Sea has a great potential and [the] status issue must be solved for its usage. Regional cooperation can support the solution of issues”.
