Halliburton has been awarded a US$120 million, three-year contract extension by Chevron Thailand for the provision of directional drilling, measurement-while-drilling (MWD) and logging-while-drilling (LWD) services for its ongoing offshore developments in the Gulf of Thailand.

The majority of the wells that Halliburton’s Sperry Drilling business line will service are high-temperature wells that exceed 150°C (302°F), with some exceeding 200°C (392°F).

“This award was based on the excellent collaboration between Chevron and Sperry in addressing the challenging drilling conditions in Thailand,” said James Bement, vice president, Halliburton Sperry Drilling. “We are proud of our leadership in HP/HT technologies, proven through millions of feet we have drilled in these environments. In addition, innovations for ultra HP/HT environments, above 250°C, have been introduced this year.”

Chevron has operated in Thailand since 1948. It began exploring for oil and gas there in 1970 and is now the top natural gas and oil producer in the country, operating 14 blocks with ownership interests ranging from 35% to 80%.
