Saipem announces US$1bn worth of onshore contracts

Saipem has been awarded new onshore contracts worth approximately US$1 billion in Australia, the Middle East and West Africa, the company announced.

In Australia, Gladstone LNG Operations Pty Ltd awarded Saipem the EPC contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of a gas pipeline, 42 inches in diameter and 435 kilometres-long, which will connect the gas fields in the Bowen and Surat Basins, in the area between Roma and Emerald, Queensland, to the Gladstone State Development Area (GSDA) on the Coral Sea shore, near the city of Gladstone, Queensland, where a LNG liquefaction and export facility will be built.

The pipeline will be entirely buried and a number of mitigation measures will be implemented during pipeline construction to minimise the environmental impact to sensitive areas, including weed control, rehabilitation and biodiversity offsetting.

The works will be completed in the third quarter of 2013, the company said.

Furthermore, in West Africa and the Middle East, Saipem has agreed with its clients various increases in the scope of its work on existing onshore contracts.
