Nearly 200 key decision makers and stakeholders in the global chemicals and petrochemicals communities gathered in Manama, Bahrain, to attend the Second GPCA Supply Chain Conference at the end of October.
The high-level discussions during the two-day event included land and sea transportation of liquid and bulk chemical products, global standards and regulations, and what chemical companies in the Middle East are doing to ensure supplies are delivered to markets safely, cost-effectively and in a socially responsible manner.
The sustainability of the supply chain was on the agenda courtesy of industry stalwart Saleh Al-Shabnan, project executive, supply chain management project (EMDAD), SABIC, with Dan Starta and Louis Besland of A.T. Kearney discussing the matter and focusing on petrochemical value chains.
The challenges and opportunities of moving materials in and out of the region was a hot topic that was tackled by Theo Zwygers, vice president of supply chain, Europe, Asia and International at LyondellBasel, while the importance of going green was reiterated by Suresh Krishnan, supply chain leader for Dow Middle East and North Africa.
“Day one provided an excellent beginning to what turned out to be a very productive event from our point of view and has also been of great benefit to the organisers and the delegates. The sharing of ideas and in-depth scenarios has been enthusiastic and has marked the discussions and debates during the event,” said Dr. Abdulwahab Al Sadoun, secretary general of GPCA.
“I have observed the interaction with more than satisfaction and find it heartening because it signposts even more insight in the fixtures for tomorrow,” said Dr. Al Sadoun.
The event was an opportunity for industry players to network with logistics companies and to exchange ideas related to the supply chain management.
