Last night a delighted Christophe Rojas, operations manager for Schlumberger Testing Services, collected the Oil & Gas Middle East Award for Best Technology Implementation.
The Award, delivered at a glittering gala dinner in Dubai beat off stiff competition from other Schlumberger divisions and AVEVA NET to scoop the prestigious trophy.Â
Rojas said the award was fitting for a solution which will save local operators both time and money in their E&P operations.
“In conventional Well Testing operations, downhole data is tradtionally acquired in memory mode. This implies that until the tools have been retrieved at surface, the operator is not able to confirm it has acquired the needed information with the expected accuracy,” explained Rojas.
“Until now the industry has been living with this uncertainty, costing several million dollars in non interpretable data and rig time. With the new, safe, reliable and efficient real-time data transmission system based on downhole electromagnetic telemetry, available in the Middle East since Q3 2010, the operator can not only retrieve reservoir pressure and temperature in real time during the test but also control downhole equipment such as the tester valve,” he explained.
“This provides the operator with total confidence that the test objectives are not only achieved but achieved in the minimum operating time as the operator can take real time decisions whilst the tools are still downhole. We have collaborated on 10 successful jobs performed with zero service quality, and our Middle East customer has been able to optimize test duration, verify downhole tool operations, manage unexpected events, monitor Nitrogen lifting as well as evaluate acidizing performance.”
Rojas said the award was the best kind of recognition for the solution, and paid tribute to his colleagues for successfully bringing it to the regional market.
