Oman raised its oil output for the second consecutive year in 2009, official data has revealed.

The Middle Eastern country beat its previous year’s output by 7.4% according to the figures and is now aiming for another year of gains in 2010.

In 2009 Oman produced an average of 812,500 barrels per day of oil, compared to 756,800 in the year previous, figures from the national economy minister revealed.

Oman addressed a decline in output through investment in its ageing fields. The country reached a peak output of 956,000 barrels per day in 2001, before seven straight years of decline.

The oil minister of Oman said in November that the country has a target of 900,000 barrels per day output for the end of this year.

Natural gas output also rose, as production for the 2009 rose 2.6% to 1.097 trillion cubic feet.
