The China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has said that it is planning substantially increase the capacity of its Ningbo liquefied natural gas terminal in Zhejiang to cope with the rise in demand for the fuel.
Reuters reported that a spokesman for CNOOC said that capacity at the facility will rise to 9 million tonnes per annum (tpa) from its current level of 3 million tpa.
China has signed a number of high-profile supply deals with major LNG exporters including Qatar, Malaysia and Indonesia. It also plans to import 2 million tpa from the Gorgon project in Australia.
